Sharon Jones and the Daptone Kings played an amazing, soul inspiring, gospel like gig at the powerstation that blew my mind and set me up for a soul searching summer vibe. By the middle of the concert she had us viewers dancing on the stage, chiming in like her back up singers with "yeah" and double time clapping like we were at a gospel church getting our soul fix. A powerful awe inspiring woman with a voice to match, Sharon Jones took us on a journey which was spellbinding where after her trance like, eyes rolling back, double time rap, felt like a preacher and his sermon, evoking a spirit that was addictive and unrelenting into the crowd which sent us into a frenzy for more as I have never heard the cry or the stomping of feet for an encore at any concert Ive seen.

Truly magically soulful fun!!!!!!!!! Would always recommend this band - 3 time I've seen them and they always bring the house down!

a wicked gig all round, the Dap kings were a tight unit you didnt even realise that two of the members wernt there as they were replaced by a couple of very talanted musicans, the lead into Sharon Jones coming onto stage was wat comes from a very tight unit of people working together to create such a funky atmosphere, I was suprised by the varying age of the crowd, not that I was expecting anything was just good solid fun all round, Sharon Jones worked the packed sea of hands very nicely, if you wernt there u missed out, =P

What an incredible show, sound, band, groove. Ms Jones had the audience in the palm of her hand from the opening moment, and right through this high energy old school revue. The whole crowd shook, rocked, slid & grooved through this mesmerising performance. Encore please!

Having been a fan of Sharon Jones' 'soul revival' style for some years, I was delighted to see that she and the Dap-Kings were playing at the Powerstation. She was, in a word - amazing. The energy that exuded from the stage could have lit up half of Auckland as she sang, danced joked and got down with a very appreciative ( and fairly mixed ) audience who roared their appreciation. I wasn't old enough to actually see the likes of James Brown or Ike and Tina Turner - this was probably the closest thing to a classic soul review in the heyday of the mid-to-late sixties that you'll ever be likely to see! A classic night.

OMG! Sharon was such a powerhouse, shakin' & groovin' the whole gig. Put some of us youngers to shame. The band was awesome, the crowd gave as good as they got. Truly entertaining

Pure entertainment, her supercool, sexymama style and rocket fuel delivery had me captivated from lights on to final applause (alas, it had to end). The Dap kings, suave and smooth, tight and sexy- elevated our Diva to soar magnificently. Femme' James Browns- what a woman! Amazing

Needless to say it was by far the most energetic and amazing concert I've been to. Two hours of funky music. Sharpn's a rocket, you can't stop her. She's a true performer, true with a capital T.
The Dap-kings are just as amazing, true match made in heaven! I was totally delighted by the skill of these guys, their funkiness and just sheer talent. The finale where each band member had their solo moment was just amazing.
Add to it Sharon staying behind to sign every ticket, CD, t-shirt, ticket, body parts...there you go. Talent sans tantrum, just the way we love it.
