There were a few laughs. But all were predictable. It was ho-hum. Same with the acting; just ho-hum. I paid a lot of money for two tickets and did not feel it was worth it. Very disappointed.

We saw the first and think we enjoyed that more BUT this was right up there - hilarious

After seeing Menopause the Musical at St James a few years ago, and laughing till I cried, I was so excited to hear it was here again. I got some girlfriends together and waited with anticipation. What a dissapointment. 4 women in black, 4 bar stools, a props table and most unbelievably hand held microphones (not head or body mics). The women themselves did a great job but with no set, costumes and only 1 free hand there is a limit to what you can do. I felt like I was at a rehersal.

Having seen the play at the Civic a couple of years ago, I felt shortchanged at this show.
It did not even last 1½ hrs, and all the cast did was sing the score - there was no chit chat between the songs like the other version and I really was disappointed.
I amnot criticisingthe vocalists - they were good, just the presentation.

Disappointing. We went as a group and the other members had seen this before and it came highly recommended, but unfortunately lacked atmosphere and not as funny as I was expecting. Didn't feel I received value for money

I saw Menopause the musical on the 27th - the first show in this April at Bruce Mason Centre.
I found the sound quality was poor and words indistinct. After waiting years to be in the right place and time for this musical, which I was thoroughly looking forward to, I was disappointed to have to strain to hear clearly. My tickets were $80.00, each - not cheap, so I felt embarrassed at my choice of show, which I made bought for a birthday treat for a dear friend. It is a shame, as the words and songs were so completely clever, not to be able to hear clearly. My girlfriend had the same problem, so I feel reassured my ears were working perfectly

I saw Menopause the Musical in Wellington a few years ago and loved it so much I just had to see it again.
Alas the New Plymouth show did not meet expectations. The earlier show had a NZ cast, better props and costumes, localised humour, acting.....need I say more.
We were subjected to 4 drab menopausal women who sang some clever lyrics but they seemed to lack any interest in entertaining us. Getting some of the audience on the stage at the finale was the last straw.....done with less interest than a cattle muster.
The Aussie crew gave the impression they have been on tour too long, ready for home and not interested in where they were or what they were doing.
Overall disappointed and I felt ripped off. As one of my friends said quite pragmatically, "4 actors $20 each I suppose that's OK"........from one person maybe but not from a theatre full!

The four women on stage were very energetic, humourous and a great singing team. I did feel that it was a bit overpriced though,as few props were used and it was a little shorter then the normal shows at that price.

I took my mother & mother-in-law whom are both mid 70's & they laughed & laughed.
Was well worth it. Very funny & entertaining ladies.

The first part of the show was slow to take off and it became very repetive.
There were some very funny moments.
Considering the props and staging and that the show only went for 90 minutes it was overpriced

Excellent! Funny and absolutely enjoyable! My daughter, 23 yrs thought that she was going to be bored but thought it was great and ofcourse knows that her mum is going through a normal period in her life :)

When a professional touring show comes to town it is normal to expect a slick high caliber well presented performance sadly I left the theater bemoaning the loss of the admission fee.
There was no set, the story of these four woman meeting in a department store and mingling through department was poorly depicted with naff often mis times canned announcements.
The acting and movement was almost nonexistent.
What we did get were four woman dressed in black sitting on bar stools taking turns to sing songs to rather thin under produced backing tracks. Although they all had good voices the sound failed because of the lack of clarity and the inconstant volume levels.
Their use of hand held microphones meant any movement was restricted and the use of props either real or imaginary imposable.
The stage lighting requirement was very small but even here there were shadows and dark spots all over the stage, the cast could not even walk 3 meters without entering a shadow.
The songs were cleaver with the use of changed wording but for the cost of admission I was expecting a little more than average karaoke.
Its not until you see a “professional” production like this, that you realize how great the local amateur operatic society is (New Plymouth Operatic) roll on “The producers”
