We really enjoyed the nutcracker, our kids really enjoyed it too. The story was witty and easy to follow. The costumes were lovely. We loved the dancing.

This is probably the most amusing and entertaining ballet I have ever seen, for both adults and children. We and our grandchildren really enjoyed the dance, the music and the great good humour.

Absolutely amazing!!!
The set was incredible,fantastic costumes,beautiful music and the dancers were just fabulous.
I would encourage anyone to go and have the experience of only what i can describe as
amazing talent.

I loved this production of The Nutcracker so much I went twice, and would have gone again if I could have afforded to! It was full of wonderful comic moments - the boys dancing on crutches had the audience in fits!! It was beautifully staged with many magical effects, the 1920's costumes were gorgeous and, of course, the dancing was superb as it always is with the New Zealand Ballet. I looked around the packed theatre and saw people ranging in age from about 3 to 93 - and every single person was transfixed. A wonderful night out!!

My first ballet in years and all I can say is I will be a regular now!! The Royal New Zealand Ballet company are awesome. The dancing and staging of the entire production were totally "out of this world". We all loved it!!!

A fantastic performance. The ballet was superb and the acting and interplay between the characters was mesmerising. The set was great and gave added atmosphere to the superb lighting and music.

Took two boys to see the Nutcracker aged 9 and 14, the 9 year old really enjoyed it along with my partner and I, but the 14 year old said it was not really his thing, though he did say he may do dance next year at school. (So not sure).
I would recommend it as a great family outing, it was fun and moved at a good pace and was not overly long. We enjoyed talking about later to see how each person interpreted the show. Must See.

This was my 1st ballet . I took my granddaughter and we loved it. A delight, the dancers were great actors , full of mischief and expression. The Bruce Mason Centre is the perfect venue . Impossible to get a bad seat, close enough to see facial expressions. Its my venue of choice in Akld. Thursday night was full of Dads with daughters and nana's and mums with their little girls all dressed up in pretty dresses with ribbons in their hair, What a treat, just watching them glued to their seats in anticipation. Well done for offering the special buy one get one free deal. Certainly made it available to alot more families. Bravo NZ Ballet

Delightful interpretation with the hospital theme engaging and lively.
perhaps the children's beds could have had more lighting it was hard to see them from the back of the theatre
Bar meal was excellent -Beer-battered fish bites and very reasonable price. Wine prohibitive at $9.00 per glass

This was the first full length ballet I have attended but it won't be the last. It was a most enjoyable evening. I would recomment it to all, from children to adults, there is something in it to make everyone laugh and the dancing was superb.

Maybe I've seen too much of ballet, maybe it's just me, however
1) There's no magic of a live orchestra, because there's no orchestra, just a record played back through far not perfect sound system of Bruce Mason Centre.
2) It is not the original XMas tale by Chyakovsky. It is kind of americanized hospital scenario with unclear and not interesting line. What happened to the Prince Nutcracker and the Rat King? Magic of XMas tale is lost.
3) Decorations, light and the costumes are bellow average
4) Choreography is average (Sorry guys, I know that you worked hard, but it is an average)

My five year old and I went along to see this at the Bruce Mason Centre and it was wonderful to see her eyes light up in seeing this classic Christmas ballet for the first time. The dancing was lovely and there was a bit of fun too.

My 2 boys loved the show -- their first ballet. I would recommend this to any families. It isn't too long, and their isn't a storyline that you need to try to follow: It's all a bit of a fantasy.
