Hardly the best performance from the North Shore rockers. Slushy sound and sloppy musicianship let them down. Honestly, they were blown off the stage by Sherpa, the excellent support, who delivered a blistering set. They were tight, they talented, they entertained.
I've seen The Checks before, and they've been better, so I'll put this down to the muso's version of a "bad day at the office".

The concert was printed on the ticket as starting at 9 so my mates and I got there just after. At 10.30 the opening band (Sherpa- amazing energy and great songs from these guys!) came on for about 30-40mins. Then after waiting 3 hours The Checks finally made their entrance at 12. They were great but I was not happy about waiting 3 hours for them to come on stage as I had to get up for work at 6am the next day. If I had been warned they would take so long I would not have gone.
So overall the bands were fantastic but the communication was poor as even the bouncers/bartenders didn't know when they were coming on (half of them didn't know who the checks were) next time I will make sure I don't have any plans the next day. But I will definitely see both bands again.

Stage presence and altogether 'tightness' of the band is so good, proud of NZ music!
Great gig as always by the checks, Ed Knowles has such a rad voice, new music is good but the classics like "Mercedes Children" just give that old school rock n roll kick start to the feet.
Damn sexy boys and Awesome all round vibe.So good to cut loose!
