The FIH Champions Trophy at North Harbour was one of the best sporting events held in NZ in 2011 - and yes that was the same year as that other tournament .... what was it?
The hockey tournament was organised in less than three months and without all the hoopla, noise and cost to the ratepayers of the rugby. The organisation, from a public perception, was great, the crowds attending, friendly, and the atmosphere, awesome! From the friendly waves from the car park wardens as you came in, to the banter from everyone leaving, it was a pleasure to be there - even if the weather - 8 seasons in any one day - was a tad trying. It was worth it to see the best male players in the world, playing in a tournament that each team had to earn the right to play in! It is called the Champions Trophy for a very good reason, and every team playing, had the crowds right behind them. This truly was the sport at it's best.

To have the best 8 teams in the world performing in New Zealand was incredible, the atmosphere was fantastic, very helpful and cheerful volunteers, great music and half time entertainment, overall a 10/10 event

This was an impressive display of International hockey. It was also an amazing testament to North Harbour Hockey and how to run a fabulous tournament. They are to be congratulated on a very well run event. We had a great day of 7 hours of watching hockey and enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks Harbour!!

The tournament was a great watch. The competition was intense between the teams. The atmosphere in the ground was amazing. The ticket prices were more than reasonable. The only disappointment was the view from the 'cheap seats'.

Well done to all. Very well organised and thank you for letting us experience hockey of the highest standard within a very family friendly environment.
We brought along our development team of year 5 & 6 children and the whole event was truly an inspiration to us all - Well done!

Primo day watching top hockey action shame about Blackstick losing but a thrilling and exciting game! Having the likes of Dywer, De Nooijer, Taekema playing in NZ live was amazing- showed that our Blackstick talent can match it with the best in the world!!!

Negatives:
The price for food & drinks
Only one area to get food and drinks.
During the breaks the food would run out.
They ran out for beers as well. The beers were also warm!
Needed my loo's

Fantastic event. Fantastic hockey. The whole family loved it. The whole event was very efficient from the shuttle buses to the catering and entertainment.

Well run, well organised fantastic hockey to watch. Final was not as exciting as would have liked, however overall this was an excellent event. Well done NZ Hockey and thanks Mr Glen for your support of such an important event for the hockey community and for bringing it to New Zealand.

The hockey was amazing, the skill, speed everything was awesome. It is time this sport had a higher profile in NZ. It is far more an international sport than netball & rugby.

Fabulous value for money. Watching four world class National Hockey matches right up close to the hockey playing surface. Good and easy parking. Good amenities and food selection. Great atmosphere.

As a family we thought it was expensive for what you got. We understood that we had standing tickets only, but there was literally nowhere you could stand together and actually see the game. Finally managed to get a space on the Southern embankment to look through the wire mesh, but at half time decided this was a waste and drove home to watch it on TV. East stand appeared to have the best view, but pricing, availability and shelter from the weather remain big issues for this venue. Food was the usual un-healthy overcooked junk, and pricing was like Eden park! Queues for the Toilets were lengthy even during the games, and the conditions of these were disgusting ! Overall, disappointed, better off watching it on the TV.
