The NYC programme presented by the Royal New Zealand Ballet was a fantastic night out. The three pieces presented were all very different in styles of choreography and had something to appeal to all.
My personal favourite was the second work titled "Final Dress" a great fusion of ballet and contemporary choreography with a huge amount of phsyical strength required from all the dancers. It was a more modern piece with "pedestrian" type costumes that seemed to speak well to the audience. The response to this work was the best of the evening.
The Balanchine piece that was presented last "Who Cares" was everything expected of his choreography, and the dancers performed it well, but the costumes left a bit to be desired. They didn't meet the standard of the choreography and the performance.
Jacob Chown was a stand out among the men, with a great energy and masculinity on stage, and Mayu Tanigaito was spell binding with her strength, power, and versatility in her performances.

The second program is incrediable good, the dance go with the music rhythms and beats so well, choregraphy is very thoughtful. The last one is ok, dancers perform technically good. But the first one is just like making up the number, the movements did not go well with the music.

Fantastic. Haven't been to the ballet for a long time. Throughly enjoyed it.
Felt quite emotional watching the second performance. Preferred the contemporary dance to more traditional styles.

A fantastic evening of entertainment - from the more traditional first dance to the mind blowing second dance - I was completely captivated! It was a memorable evening and showed the amazing versatility of our dancers. Well done Royal NZ Ballet! I look forward to their next performance :)

The first section was virtually a warm up and introduction to the dancers, slightly too long.

Second stanza was the best for me with perfect interpretation of the theme.

Final American Show tunes was very good, excellent dancing from the Principals ably backed by company.

An evening that passed quickly and left wanting more. Good appreciation from the audience.

Starting off with classical ballet - beautiful to watch, the second dance was so full-on and energetic I had trouble knowing where to look! More modern dances - so much happening on stage, I hadn't realized that a ballet could be like that! I was delighted and didn't know where to look in case I missed something! Finishing off with more New York cabaret style dancing we left the theatre singing "I've Got Sunshine" to ourselves, being delighted in the performances we had seen! We are not regular ballet-goers but I now want to see more!

Well with much anticipation we took our seats, after not attending a RNZB production in years as the standards had dropped well below poor the buzz about our new creative director had us intrigued. NYC started off with the first of three ballet performances unfortunatly this was a disappointment a fairly poor effort thankfully it was all over in twenty minutes, this was followed by a much more modern style ballet now usually I'm a cassics man but this was on par with some very good australian ballets this was the stand out of the night ! well done RNZB. Now the final ballet hmmm just a little sad quiet frankly no imagination although i must say the solos in this set performed by the ladies were almost world class. I have to commend the men tonight aswell espeically our international visitors just an effortless brilliance you were the stand out performers of the night. One last point the intervals - two twenty minute performances followed by the finale consisting of thrity minutes these being split up with two twenty minute intervals this i thought was a little overkill can our dancers not last longer like our international cousins ? Finally the all important music was a fantastic and very appropirate selection.

If you love the Ballet I always feel the NZ Royal Ballet delivers and meets expectations. Last night was a great way to show in three short ballets the versatility of the ballet and the dancers. I was really impressed with how even a 9 yr old could interpret the ballet. Money worth spending!
