A psychadelic jazz driven funk experience with Ethiopian overtones - awesome for a boogey. An eclectic mix of people from young to old, black brown and white all having a good time.
The black jesus experience provided some high energy entertainment to complement the main man's musical mastery. I think he played 5 instruments and rocked out to all of them.

What a surprise. Amazing eclectic mix of hip hop and jazz/funk grooves exceeded our expectations. Needs a new guitarist and bass player. Great trumpet and tenor sax. Female vocalist and rapper were superb. Mulata knows how to find the jam and the spot. Thank you.

Discovered Mulatu while watching the movie Dead FLowers, and have one of his recent albums that I really like, so hence my motivation to go. The band generally had a good sound, but the mixing left a bit to be desired at times - at one point the sax player was playing his heart out but he was barely distinguishable from the band, as was Mulatu a few times. Could have done without the Rapping, don't like it anyway, and you couldn't understand a word Jesus said anyway (perhaps just as well?). Guitar player was great, but apart from his solo towards the end, he too was lost most of the time. Some really good bits, some average bits, and some sub-par bits for me, so I gave it an average rating. Was disappointed that many of the audience around me seemed more interested in having a good old chin-wag than actually listening to the music, to the extent that in the quieter parts they were all I could hear. Some talked through the entire concert. Maybe they came on the wrong night and were expecting a lounge band?

He's an amnazing musician, but the gig was too short! Especially for the price of the tickets... Sound was okay, a bit muddy in places. Annoying that the bar only took cash. Would recommend for the experience of seeing him live, but next time make the gig longer and mix the sound better please.

Awesome night at the Powerstation....great musicians, very energetic performance by Mulatu & The Black Jesus Experience. You could see they were having a great time too...in parts it seemed they were jamming (certainly not a staged performance... very natural). Great rhythms that makes you groove. I highly recommend it!
