Opening act(s): I have completely forgotten the name of the opening act but this was a good choice and their performance was very good and it was fitting to have Christchurch represented. They were deserved of their opening entry to the show. @

This show was nothing short of entertaining, professional and yet you felt it was also a personal experience. I was not expecting too much of Guy Sebastion but his approach and personality showed him to be a caring and impressionable performer. He was able to make those momentary changes such as when he found his piano was not plugged in correctly and lightly dismissed this and proceeded to adjust where needed. His rendition of Amazing Grace was timely and his expressions of sadness over the happenings in Christchurch and other parts of the world was indicative of a person who has feelings, well done I say. His voice range, unbelievable!!
Lionel Ritchie - what an act. The guy is unmatched with vigor, enthusiasm, connection with the audience and superlative skills in musical arrangement. His understanding of the audience and ability to play them to his mood, temporament and energy then to slow them down at will only to pick them up again let's dance again. I am not the world's best and willing dancer but I found myself being hypnotised into submission with his let's go prompting. Bring him on!!! 61 years old you say?? If I am half as fit at the same age I would be so fortunate. And the voice?? Wow!!

Having scored front row tickets, my partner and I had the most fantastic view of two great acts.
Cindy Wilson smiled the for the entire gig; quite obviously from genuine happiness to be performing at such a great venue, for such an appreciative crowd.
Had I been blindfolded, I would have sworn I was listening to a record on a fantastic sound system; Cindy, Kate and Fred's singing was incredible. They have lost nothing with age.
I sang along to every song, and felt quite down the next day with the realisation that it was all over.
The same can be said for Charlie and Craig Reid - a class act!
Hope they both come back soon!

The line of music was great, perhaps Dragon should of played last best on the night.
Only compliant was with the north west gate not been open to the public and not known about this until arriving. Big problem when walking from Hotel on Kirkbride rd.
Didnt see anyone miss behaving just having a real goodtime.

The sun came out as the clock was turned back at the class of 81 concert, Saturday, Feb 12. Shona Laing provided further examples of her politically edged writing skills and as her voice warmed up, the well know tonal quaver was evident. Another Kiwi who has reinvented himself, Mark Williams, proved the perfect frontman for Dragon's layered riffs and clever lyrics. The fact of having 5 groups each playing around an hour, meant there was no fillers as hit after hit was fired out particularly by Dragon who took few breaks between songs and moved effortlessly from the end note of one song into the first note of the other. Aussie icons Mental as Anything were a polished act, the lead guitar looking well-worn but producing memorable breaks. The organists' Split Enz-like movements and banter between songs had been charging-up audiences since Sweetwaters. The MC kept the 80's theme up front with a range of well-chosen songs that kept everyone dancing and singing between acts.
Would all the Cats be there? Would Annie Crummer take a break from her recent musical theatre forays? They didn't disspoint backed by a crash-hot backing band complete with a horn section, backing singerand smooth lead guitarist. These songbirds love working with each other and it showed throughout the set. Tinkerbell like Sharon O'Neill proved the voice was still there as she soared through her songs. Kim,Annie Debbie and Margaret all featured as lead vocalists as the audience sang along, "For Today I remember your smile" . This was the Exponents party and they did not disappoint although the well-known ballads were the crowd pleasers rather than the blaring rockers. Jordan Luck kicked off his shoes and danced the night away like the rest of us. 30 years ago today!!!!!!!

Enjoyed Icehouse, they played for an hr and a half, disappointed abit with Hall and Oates as they didn't really interact with crowd and only played an hour, although enjoyable.
The other thing is parking was great but a real hassle to get out, had to wait in a que for half an hour which spoilt the whole experience.

When the Cats Away & Dragon should have been the final two acts as everyone seemed to enjoy them.
Not sure where the drunken, staggering crowd was - maybe at some other show as we saw no evidence of this whatsoever.
Good concert DOTG & Villa Maria.

Wow what an afternoon. Just one disappointment really and that was Shona Laing singing recent stuff. Because it was an 80s show I wanted to hear 80s songs. She still has an amazing voice though. Mental as Anything were really good but they didn’t seem to get a very warm reception from the audience. Still, I thought they were great. I’m not a big fan of the Exponents but I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. Really enjoyed them. My second favourite act of the night was Dragon. They were fabulous. Certainly got the crowd going. But the absolute highlight for me was When the Cats Away with Sharon O’Neill. They were amazing! Fantastic energy. We just danced and sang at the top of our voices. They were the band I was looking forward to the most and they didn't disappoint. Would definitely see them again in concert in a heartbeat.

What could have been better ? A gorgeous day; idyllic setting for a picnic on the grass,good company ,a glass of excellent wine and some of the best kiwi rock groups of all time.Time might have aged us all, but that didn't impact on the best music I've heard in a long time. Everyone sounded as good as they did in the 80's,and all I had to do was close my eyes and let myself drift back 30 years. World class performances from Dragon and lead singer Marc Williams,Mental as Anything, Shona Lang,Sharon O'Neill, When the Cat's Away and the Exponents. Heart and soul was pumped out for those lucky enough to be there.All those iconic songs we knew the words to and had no trouble singing along to. Who could have asked for more. I was definitely in heaven and I will be back next year.

A good bit of nostalgia but also a load of kiwi talent on display. First time I'd seen Shona Laing and whilst she was pared back with no backing band, a good starter for the day, 1905 still a great song. Dragon got the crowd up and dancing and I never fail to enjoy drummer Pete Drummond's solo in O Zambesi. Mentals were OK, I was more interested in seeing kiwi guitarist Mike Caen playing for them. Special buzz seeing the Cats come on and deliver a great set with Sharon O'Neill coming in midway. That backing band is class. Gary Verberne on guitar is right up there. A very talented man. Aaah the Exponents. Wicked to see them play again. I got to photo them all so had the added luxury of being close up. Well organised event and a really laid back vibe.

Very average show - the musicians were slick but had heard them all before at several concerts so nothing very exciting.
To pay $90 per ticket (plus travel and accom etc) and only hear live music half the time is very disappointing.
Bar got closed early apparently due to too many intoxicated people - we only saw 3 who maybe had overindulged in too much of the free wine testing - all the rest were having fun.
Prices of drink and food were way over the top.
Taxis very easy to get afterwards.
Won't be going back.

Enjoyed the day/venue superb/only bad thing was the Sound System for Mental as Anything - couldnt hear the vocals well enough so this was quite disappointing - all the other bands did not have this problem so not sure why this happened - spoit their songs which was one of the main reasons we came to this event...still had a great time!

Outstanding day on the green. Great venue, great wine. Featured Shona Lang, Dragon, Mental as Anything, When the Cats Away, and The Exponents. All the acts made themselves available to meet the fans and sign autographs. A big thumbs up to you all. When the Cats Away were the stand out performers getting everyone on their feet. It was great to see the old crew back in the limelight.
